GEI Releases Report Presenting Strategies to Maintain Grid Reliability Under the Clean Power Plan

A new report by the Green Energy Institute at Lewis & Clark Law School debunks concerns that the Clean Power Plan will negatively impact grid reliability. The report demonstrates that, although the Clean Power Plan will result in a shift from coal-fired power to renewable energy resources such as wind and solar power, grid operators in the western United States can successfully integrate these variable energy resources onto the grid without jeopardizing reliability.
The Green Energy Institute’s Renewable, Reliable, Resilient report shows that concerns about grid reliability are misplaced. The report demonstrates that western states can implement a variety of strategies and practices to maintain grid reliability as it transitions away from fossil fuels to renewable energy. These changes will promote the overdue development of a modern and resilient transmission system capable of meeting 21st Century energy needs.
