Perception and Reasoning

Rebecca Copenhaver will attend an NEH Summer Institute, “Presupposition and Perception: Reasoning, Ethics, Politics, and Aesthetics.”

Professor of Philosophy Rebecca (Becko) Copenhaver has been accepted to a 2016 NEH Summer Institute, “Presupposition and Perception: Reasoning, Ethics, Politics, and Aesthetics.” Hosted at Cornell University and co-directed by faculty members from Harvard and Cornell universities, this four-week long Summer Institute will engage 25 summer scholars in explorations of perception and reasoning. Each week will include group meetings and roundtable discussions focusing on a different theme; sessions will be enhanced by visiting speakers from a variety of disciplines—including philosophy, English, Psychology and Africana Studies, and Rhetoric and History of Art. This opportunity is well aligned with Dr. Copenhaver’s research and teaching. More information about this particular Institute is available here.

Each year, NEH offers professional development opportunities for educators to study a variety of humanities topics and interested college faculty from around the country apply to participate. Those selected through a competitive application process receive stipends to help cover expenses. More information about NEH’s summer programs in the humanities for college faculty is available here
