Top Eight Picks for Getting Away From Your Desk This Summer

Every once in a while, you need a little escape—even a short break from your projects helps renew motivation and inspiration.

Check out these eight tips to plan your next adventure:

1. Science + dessert

The 2016 Rogers Science Research Brown Bag Presentations offer a chance to watch students discuss their research during the lunch hour every Tuesday in July. Each presentation is 15 minutes long; there are generally three to four talks per session. Presentations are free and open to the public with science-themed dessert provided!

2. Lunch hour art tour

Join Hoffman Gallery Director Linda Tesner on a walk through campus to view the college’s outdoor art collection. Please gather for the tour at 12:05 p.m. on Tuesday, July 19, at the Hoffman Gallery. Bring a bag lunch and learn how these public works of art found their home at Lewis & Clark. 

3. Free food cart lunch at Lewis & Clark’s new park-and-ride lot

Ride the shuttle to get a free lunch and a sneak peak at our new park-and-ride lot (to be made available fall semester 2016). Meet at the Templeton drive shuttle stop at 11:45 a.m. on Wednesday, July 27. Please register here. 

4. Watzek rocks!

Visit our libraries and special collections to find out why our libraries are at the core of the Lewis & Clark campus experience. As an employee, remember that you have access to our remarkable collections for your own research or leisure reading.

5. Grab-and-go ice cream treats

Food for Thought Café, located in the York Graduate Center, offers a small freezer full of ice cream treats. View the hours of operation.

6. Law Clinic tour

Join the CARE Committee on Wednesday, August 3, at 11 a.m. on a visit to the Criminal Justice Reform Clinic to learn how they serve the community and give our law students valuable real world experience. Please register for this event. Details regarding carpooling, parking, and food cart lunch to follow. 

7. Friends and Families Friday

Join the kid-friendly fun with fellow Lewis & Clark faculty and staff on Friday, August 19, from 3 to 7:30 p.m., at the Lewis & Clark outdoor pool and grape arbor. Friends and Family Friday is open to all community members and their friends and families. 

8. Fantastic Fridays Sale at the L&C Bookstore

The Bookstore will offer discounted items every Friday, beginning on July 15 and running through August 19. The sale runs on Fridays only. The merchandise will be clearly tagged and the discount will be taken at the register. Store hours are 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
