Recognizing Louis Kuo

The M.J. Murdock Charitable Trust has awarded Honorable Mention for the 2016 Lynwood W. Swanson Scientific Research Award to Dr. Louis Kuo, Professor of Chemistry.

The M.J. Murdock Charitable Trust has awarded Honorable Mention for the 2016 Lynwood W. Swanson Scientific Research Award to Dr. Louis Kuo, Professor of Chemistry. This new award program is intended to recognize a senior faculty exemplar with an “established, productive, and nationally recognized research program”—and Dr. Kuo was a top finalist. This recognition is no surprise: in his 23 years at Lewis & Clark, Dr. Kuo has formally mentored and collaborated with more than 50 undergraduate students; has had more than 25 undergraduate co-authors on peer-reviewed publications; has been supported almost continuously by external grants; has several patents; and has established a productive, collaborative, and nationally recognized research program that is a model for involving undergraduates in meaningful research. He has diversified his scholarship to stay on the cutting edge of his field, and as one outside colleague wrote, “…just like his previous molybdocene studies, Louis’s [more recent] systematic work on the molybdates will be the starting point for future studies by other chemists.”
