What is your role at Lewis & Clark?

I am a law professor. I have worked at Lewis & Clark for 37 years teaching courses focused on litigation issues, especially those associated with criminal law. For a period of time, I also served as associate dean of the law faculty.

Why do you choose to support Lewis & Clark?

Providing a quality education is one of the best investments I can make in the future of our country. Lewis & Clark Law School has amazing, dedicated students, and it is a pleasure to work with them. I know that by supporting the law school I am helping ensure that our graduates will practice law with knowledge, integrity, and sensitivity to the diverse needs of our changing society.

You’re a long-time employee; how has the law school changed over the years?

In 1980, when I began teaching at Lewis & Clark, the law school did not enjoy a national reputation. Today we are well known across the country for a number of our excellent programs (such as environmental law, business, animal law, and victims’ rights), our faculty scholarship, and our outstanding alums in practice across the country and around the world. We have accomplished this without sacrificing our focus on teaching and students or our supportive, flexible environment.

What do people not know about you?

Before going to law school I was trained as a cultural anthropologist, did fieldwork in rural Ecuador, and edited a junior high social studies textbook.

What do you like to do in your spare time?

While school is in session I enjoy working out, Tai Chi, cooking, hiking and birding, reading novels, and attending theater and concerts. I am a Board member of Friends of Chamber Music and Metropolitan Public Defender. When school is not in session I add travel to this list whenever possible.
