Artist Brown Bag Lunch

January 19 (1:30-2:30pm)
Fir Acres Theatre - Classroom

No Finish Line:  The Torturous Ecstasy of the Theater Life
It’s not a sprint, it’s a marathon!
It’s not destination, it’s the journey!
Life is not a dress rehearsal! It’s show time!

Why the heck do artists need so many inspirational quotes? Because this ship is hard! Between the creating, the marketing, the entrepreneurship, the self-care, the critics and the networking is the very real possibility of complete and total burnout and a fiery financial apocalypse.

During the lunch talk, Kristina will talk about carving a career, finding financial sustainability and emotional balance and creative inspiration in this strange and crazy life.  She’ll also talk about how community engagement projects are some of the most meaningful components of an artist’s practice.  Fresh from the APAP Artist Institute in NYC last week, she may even share some career strategic planning materials with participants!

Master Class
January 20th (12-3pm)
Fir Acres Theatre - BLACK BOX

Estranging the Public
Led by Emily Mendelsohn with Kristina Wong

This 3 hour workshop will explore performance as a tool for asserting, repositioning, and interrupting narratives of public space. What does it mean to be site specific or site responsive with politicized bodies and sites? How do we engage protest as an aesthetic event? We will look at some examples in visual and performing arts, as we try out our own interventions - in the theater and in designing our own signage for the following day’s inauguration protest.

Participants are invited to bring sign making materials (cardboard, markers).
