Health Hazards of Wildfire Smoke
September 05, 2017
The Southwest Clean Air Agency and the Oregon Department of Environmental Quality have issued an Air Quality Alert, which is in effect until 12 p.m. Friday, September 8.
Wildfires and severe smoke can create dangerous conditions for people, especially those with chronic health conditions.
Safety recommendations include:
- Stay indoors with windows closed
- Drive with the fan on re-circulation mode
- Limit time outdoors
- Contact lens users to switch to glasses, as the tiny particles of ash can irritate eyes
- Preexisting cardiovascular issues pose higher risk of complications
