Anna Gonzalez to Become Vice President at Harvey Mudd College

Dean of Students Anna Gonzalez will leave Lewis & Clark to become Vice President for Student Affairs and Dean of Students at Harvey Mudd College in Claremont, California.

President Wim Wiewel announced today that Dean of Students Anna Gonzalez will leave Lewis & Clark to become Vice President for Student Affairs and Dean of Students at Harvey Mudd College in Claremont, California. She will begin her new role on August 1.

“Anna has been energetic and unwavering in her support of Lewis & Clark students and families over the last seven years. And, in the last eight months, she has been a welcome and trusted guide to me as I learn about Lewis & Clark.” Wiewel said. “She is a strong leader, and I wish her every success in this new endeavor.”

Wiewel praised Gonzalez for her many accomplishments, including the growth and development of the cocurricular experiences of undergraduates, as well as wellness and student support services for graduate and law students. She developed and implemented college-wide initiatives such as living-learning communities, the creation of a career center and advisory board, a mandatory first-year experience for all new students, Title IX training for the community, and the creation of the college’s hate/bias policy. She has also led the Office of Alumni and Parent Programs.

She developed Lewis & Clark’s master’s degree program in student affairs administration and served as a core faculty member, program director, and student adviser. She will continue to stay involved in that program.

“This is bittersweet for me,” said Gonzalez. “I’m taking on a great new opportunity, and I get to be close to my family, most of which resides in Southern California. But I’ll always be a Pioneer at heart, and I will miss the daily interactions with our amazing students, faculty, and staff.”

No stranger to The Claremont Colleges of which Harvey Mudd is a part, Gonzalez earned her PhD in education from Claremont Graduate University.

Planning for a national search for a dean of students will begin immediately. No interim appointments have yet been made.

There will be an on-campus party for Anna in September, when students are back on campus.
