New Gmail Opt-In Begins Monday, June 25, 2018.
Beginning Monday, June 25, users on our lclark.edu domain may opt in to the new, updated Gmail. Similar to the recent update to Google Calendar, the new look is primarily cosmetic, but also comes with some new functionality. A few features worth highlighting include:
Taskbar: docked on the right side of the screen, the taskbar enables quick access to Calendar, Tasks, and Keep which allows you to add notes and create lists.
Snooze: when a message appears in your inbox that you would prefer to get back to later, you have the option to ‘snooze’ the message, scheduling it to re-deliver to your inbox at a later date and time.
Smart reply: Gmail will recommend and auto-generate one-click auto-replies that may be customized once added to the body of your email.
Nudge: If a message includes a question or prompt, and has remained in the inbox without a reply, a reminder will appear next to the message, providing a gentle ‘nudge’ that the sender may be awaiting a reply.
Confidential mode: allows you to remove forward, copy, download or print options from your email, as well as set messages to expire after a period of time. This is helpful for messages which may contain confidential information.
Users who have not opted in by the beginning of August will be automatically moved to the new Gmail. Google provides support documentation for the new Gmail features, but feel free to reach out to the IT Service Desk if you have additional questions.
