Presidential Inauguration Partners With Portland Backpack Food Donation Progam
September 17, 2018
As part of our celebration of President Wiewel’s inauguration, the Lewis & Clark community is invited to participate in a food donation program for local school children run by Portland Backpack.
On October 5, we will be filling 100 backpacks with healthy meals for students experiencing food insecurity to take home over the weekend when school meals are not available.
You may donate food, cash, or your time toward this effort.
To donate food or to volunteer to pack the food bags, please see this form. You are welcome to participate individually or as a group (e.g. with your student club or department). Please review items that are unacceptable for donation below*.
Contact Amy Dvorak in the sustainability office with questions.
About Portland Backpack:
For some children, the federally sponsored school lunch is their main source of nutrition on school days, on the weekends these children often experience food insecurity. Each Friday during the academic year, Portland Backpack volunteers collect food sacks containing two nutritious meals, two snacks, and two oatmeal packets. Portland Public School staff identify the children most at risk for food insecurity and distribute the sacks accordingly. Portland Backpack serves the PPS King, Rigler, Scott and Woodlawn schools.
