Staff Development Days Postponed

This year’s Staff Development Days will be postponed until further notice.

Dear Lewis & Clark Staff:

On behalf of the CARE Committee, we regret that this year’s Staff Development Days (SDD) are postponed until further notice. The event had been scheduled during the first week of law school classes—an inopportune time for the law school. In the past, this professional development series was held in February or March when the semester was already in full swing. In an effort to increase attendance at SDD—and to have a positive impact on the professional development portion of the Gallup Q12 survey that will open in February 2019—the committee chose to host SDD in January.

Staff Development Days originally started as an HR initiative, which later moved under the direction of IT. When IT stopped the program, CARE took it on in 2015. The CARE Committee is a volunteer-run committee without an officially endorsed charge. This has raised issues concerning our authority to offer staff training that takes our community members away from their day-to-day work. As such, the CARE Committee has decided to postpone Staff Development Days with the hope that this valuable program will be officially endorsed by the Executive Council, thus allowing employees to attend as part of their work day.

We apologize for the inconvenience this may have caused, especially to our speakers who have made the time to prepare for these training sessions.

Signed,
CARE Committee Members
