Dr. Mohamed Anber Selected as a KITP Scholar

The Kavli Institute for Theoretical Physics (KITP) has selected Assistant Professor of Physics Mohamed Anber as a KITP Scholar for 2019-2021. Part of the University of California, Santa Barbara, their website describes The Kavli Institute for Theoretical Physics as “the first and foremost scientific research facility where theorists in physics and allied fields congregate, for sustained periods of time, to work together intensely on a broad range of questions arising from investigations at the leading edges of science.” A high energy physicist, Dr. Anber studies a broad range of theoretical physics topics from gravity to quantum field theory to cosmology. As a KITP Scholar, over the three year project period, Dr. Anber will spend a total of six weeks conducting research, engaging in activities, and collaborating with other scholars at the Institute. This competitive program, which supports approximately six to eight visiting researchers from teaching intensive U.S. colleges each year, will cover Dr. Anber’s travel and lodging expenses.

It is worth noting that this is Dr. Anber’s second significant award since joining Lewis & Clark in the Fall of 2016; he landed a three-year National Science Foundation grant for his project, “Compactified Gauge Theories: Phase Structure, Strings, and Continuity” in 2017. The research he will do at KITP expands upon this current project.
