Top grades for Environmental Law, Diversity

Editor Update: The Spring 2019 issue of preLaw continued to give Lewis & Clark Law top grades in Practical Training (A), Intellectual Property (A-) and Business Law (A-).
The winter issue of preLaw Magazine gave top grades to Lewis & Clark Law School for its environmental law program and its diversity.
The environmental law program received an A+ in its “Top Law Schools” section.
The methodology is based on the breadth of each school’s curricular offerings, considering the school’s concentration, clinics, centers, externships, journals, student groups and certificates. An A represents a score of 90% or higher.
The article notes Lewis & Clark’s 32 environmental law courses, in addition to its leadership in Animal Law. Practical-training opportunities were also called out, naming Earthrise Law Center, the International Environmental Law Project (IELP), the Green Energy Institute and the Environmental Law Review.
In a related ranking effort, U.S. News named Lewis & Clark #1 in environmental law specialty among all the nation’s law schools this year.
“We are pleased that both preLaw and U.S. News recognize the excellence of our environmental law program, which began over 50 years ago as our nation was awakening to the importance of laws to protect our environment,” said Dean Jennifer Johnson.
In the preLaw magazine section on “Most Diverse Law Schools,” Lewis & Clark received an A- grade. The criteria for this recognition is based on how well the law schools’ students and faculty match with the U.S. average for minority populations.
“We are committed to increasing the diversity of our student body and faculty members,” explained Dean Jennifer Johnson. “We believe a diverse law school community is essential to train attorneys to successfully serve our communities.”
