Summer 2019 Fitness for Employees

These classes are free and are taught by Lewis & Clark employee volunteers June through August.

The CARE committee promotes recreational activities to help make a positive impact and build cohesiveness among employees. Below is a summary of fitness opportunities on campus. Please email CARE@lclark.edu if you notice we’ve missed something or have any questions.

Tennis anyone? (Monday and Wednesday)

Several employees meet informally to play cardio tennis (otherwise known as running with rackets). This semester, the group meets at either outdoor courts on Mondays and Wednesdays at noon. In case of rain, meet at tennis dome. For more information, please contact Caroline Mead (cmead@lclark.edu) or Andy Marion (amarion@lclark.edu).

Dance like nobody’s looking (Thursday)

“Swingercise” is led by Melissa Roane, of the Watzek Library staff, on Thursdays from noon to 12:45pm in the Pamplin Activity (Mat) Room 019. Melissa guides informal group of employees in steps and notions from the Charleston to the Jitterbug era. It is mostly cardio-dance, and Melissa will also infuse mini-history and some technique in vernacular jazz.

Get your stretch on (Friday)

Come to Pamplin Activity (Mat) Room 019 on Fridays for a no-host hour of stretching with foam rollers. It’s a time and place to stretch and visit with others at the end of the week.

Trail running and track workouts (times vary)

All speeds are welcome to join trail runs through the Tryon Creek State Natural Area. The running group will split into two (or more) groups to account for different speeds. Track workouts (at Griswold Stadium) are self-directed and suitable for people of all abilities: walkers, runners, joggers, run/walkers, you name it! If interested, contact Stacey Kim (skim@lclark.edu).

PE classes

Employees are welcome to drop-in regularly to current semester PE classes, though our Physical Education and Athletics staff ask that you please contact the instructor before you go to make sure they can accommodate an increase in class size. Classes can be found via WebAdvisor. In addition, employees are welcome to use the tennis dome, weight room, track, swimming pool, and mat room. Summer 2019 Outdoor Pool and Tennis Courts days and hours vary.
