Dr. Brian House featured in Science Gallery Bengaluru

Dr. House featured in Science Gallery Bengaluru
Science Gallery is an international group of public science centers that showcase work at the intersection of science and the arts. SUBMERGE is the inaugural exhibition at the new Science Gallery in Bengaluru (Bangalore), India, and addresses the future of Earth’s freshwater.
Dr. House’s piece, Animas, draws water quality data in real time from the mountains in Colorado and produces sound in response by resonating large metal panels in the gallery. It highlights the global issue of acid mine drainage and the difficulty of relating to continual ecological change.
Animas was originally commissioned by the University of Denver, and Dr. House conducted research for the artwork during a residency at the Rocky Mountain Biological Laboratory. Last year, the Journal of Sonic Studies published “Animas: Disaster, Data, and the Resonance of a River” (https://www.researchcatalogue.net/view/482358/482359), which discusses the process. Science Gallery noted that acid mine drainage is a global issue in bringing the sound sculpture to India.
SUBMERGE participates in the Government of Karnataka ‘Year of Water’ initiative and runs from December 15th to January 30th. For more information, see https://bengaluru.sciencegallery.com/submerge
