Public Interest Law Project Hosts Most Successful Auction in Years

The Lewis & Clark Law School Public Interest Law Project (PILP) auction on February 22, 2020, raised the most money since 2013. Over 200 people attended, which was also a significant increase from prior years. The additional funds raised will allow PILP to provide more summer awards to students who have an unpaid public interest internship.
“This year’s PILP auction grossed over $75,000 and was one of the most well attended in years,” stated Auction Director Natalie Hollabaugh ’21. “A total of over 600 student volunteer hours went into making this event a success and we are so grateful for the support of not only the Lewis & Clark community but Portland as a whole. We look forward to celebrating the auction’s 30th birthday next year!”
The money raised from the auction supports students who are pursuing an unpaid summer internship in a public interest field. Last year, PILP was able to provide awards to 13 students working at a variety of public interest organizations.
“I commend the hard work of our law students – who volunteered over and above their demanding academic schedule – to make public interest internships financially viable for their fellow students,” said Dean Jennifer Johnson. “This program supports our community by providing critical legal assistance to organizations who otherwise would not be able to afford it, and it provides needed practical training opportunities.”
