Dispatch From Campus: Mail Services

On March 17, 2020, President Wiewel announced that only critical-services staff should report to work on campus. This Q&A series offers a closer look at how the stay-at-home order has affected various campus services and operations.

The following Q&A highlights L&C’s mail services with Site Manager Stephanie Takashima.

How has Mail Services changed?

We have reduced our on-site staff and window hours in an effort to limit exposure. Our window hours are now 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Monday through Friday. We ask that you please practice social distancing with our staff and others while waiting for assistance.

Can you tell us about any interactions that highlight the morale and/or creativity of staff or students that you have worked with during this difficult time?

We are all in this together, as we navigate through this challenging time. We are kept moving by the kindness and understanding of staff, faculty, and students. A big thank you to Melanie from the Bookstore for her morning smiles and keeping us stocked up on snacks!

What are you doing to keep yourself occupied during this stay-at-home order?

Rain, sleet or snow…and now COVID-19, the mail must go on! While most are away, incoming mail and packages still continue. That, along with forwarding/shipping student items, helping at the window and continual cleaning, we stay busy!

What personal hobby or activity are you most looking forward to when this is over?

We’re all excited to be back into the outside world! We miss our friends, families, dog parks, hiking, concerts, the beach….so many things!

Is there anything else you’d like to add?

To please practice safety, patience, kindness and gratitude with one another. We are all in this together.
