In December 2019, DUCKFEED.TVan independent podcasting network dedicated to video games, comedy, and communityheld their annual 48-hour gameathon charity live stream to benefit the TransActive Gender Project at Lewis & Clark Graduate School of Education and Counseling. The annual charity event, known as Duckstream, originated approximately six years ago when DUCKFEED.TV recognized the lack of transgender and gender diverse communities in the gaming world. In response to this underrepresentation, they began using their platforms to raise funds to directly support TransActive Gender Project in empowering transgender and gender diverse children, youth, and their families.

In its 5th year, Duckstream bulldozed past DUCKFEED.TV’s $7500 fundraising goal by more than 50%, garnering a total of $18,000 for TransActive.

Jenn Burleton, TransActive’s founder and Program Director, shares that DUCKFEED.TV fundraisers have shown a real commitment to supporting initiatives to uplift underrepresented transgender and gender diverse communities not only in the gaming world but also in the Portland community. She adds that charity events like Duckstream have reimagined traditional brick and mortar fundraising by using today’s technology to create awareness and advance more inclusive and equitable agendas.

The live stream aired via Twitch, a video live streaming service. The site primarily focuses on video game live streaming, including broadcasts of esports competitions, in addition to music broadcasts, creative content, and, more recently, “in real life” streams.
