Important: What LC Students Need to Know About Wellness Services!

On behalf of Wellness Services, we want to welcome you to the academic year!

Dear Students:

On behalf of Wellness Services, we want to welcome you to the academic year!

Thanks to all of you who have already completed your required COVID testing on-campus. If you have not done so, be sure to read the email we sent last Friday about this week’s COVID testing for asymptomatic students. Students should not have anything to eat, drink, chew or smoke for 30 minutes prior to their testing, with the exception of drinking water. Please be sure to come to test on your assigned testing day.

Your health is of the utmost importance to my staff and me. We are deeply committed to your health generally, and to partnering with you to reduce the spread of any COVID illness on campus this semester. Please keep this email handy, as it contains important information about our Wellness Services this year, especially for students taking in-person classes.

  1. The Health Service is open this week for telehealth urgent care and for consultations about COVID-like symptoms. You must call before coming into the clinic. All consultations start with a screening. Call 503-768-7165 weekdays between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. to learn about access to our telehealth and other services.
  2. For the coming holiday weekend, the Health Service will offer telehealth appointments on both Saturday and Monday from 10 a.m. until noon, for urgent care and any COVID-like symptoms. For Saturday and Monday, students can make an appointment through our Health Information Portal. The Health Service will be closed this Sunday. Once we have finished with this week’s COVID testing clinic for asymptomatic students, the Health Service will be expanding the scope of its telehealth visits.
  3. We have a NEW nurse consultation line this year, offering free medical consultation anytime the Health Service is closed. Their phone number is 1-877-617-9531. We ask that you do NOT call the nurse line when the Health Service is open (8 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays when classes are in session)–call the Health Service (503-768-7165) for consultation instead. (For returning students: The nurse phone consultation line from last academic year is no longer available.)
  4. To keep our community safe and reduce any chance of disease transmission, all students are expected to perform a daily self-check of symptoms, including taking your temperature, prior to leaving your residence in the morning. If you experience any symptoms, we need you to report those symptoms to Wellness Services using our COVID Self-Check and Report Form (SCARF). This Form is familiar to those of you who have moved on campus already, but is not familiar to students living off-campus. It is essential that you use this form to report any COVID-like symptoms, diagnoses, or potential exposure. Information from this form will be maintained as a confidential part of your medical record in Wellness Services. If you report symptoms, a COVID diagnosis, or exposure on this form, Wellness staff will reach out to you to discuss support. The form also includes a link so students in residence can request meal delivery. The form is available through the Health Information Portal.
  5. If you ever have COVID-like symptoms, please be sure to immediately self-isolate and follow our Guidelines for Self-Isolation until you have been cleared by a medical professional.

  7. The Counseling Service is open for full telemental health services starting this week. We are able to provide telemental health services to students located physically in Oregon, and will do our best to assist students in other states with referrals. All service requests start with a phone call to 503-768-7160, when we will talk with you about options for services. Anytime the Counseling Service is closed, our Crisis Counseling Service is available by calling 503-265-7804.
  8. If you don’t need student health insurance, and don’t want to be charged for it, you must complete the online waiver attesting that you have comparable insurance by September 14. Otherwise, the charge to your account for student health insurance will stand. You can access the waiver on the student health insurance website: go.lclark.edu/student/health/insurance

We hope this information is helpful to you. Best wishes for a great start to your academic year.
