New Career Building Blocks

Beginning in fall 2021, Lewis & Clark will offer two new academic focus areas, building on the unique interdisciplinary strengths of the liberal arts.

Data Science Minor

In a world awash with data, nearly every field of endeavor and inquiry is being transformed by data science. To help prepare students for these opportunities, the college is offering a new minor in data science. The minor will require a minimum of 24 semester credits (six courses), including introductory courses in data science and computer science as well as a two-course statistics sequence, a social impact course, and an elective chosen from a variety of disciplines. It will be open to majors in any field of study, from computer science and biology to political science and psychology.

Cybersecurity Concentration

Lewis & Clark’s Department of Mathematical Sciences is offering a new concentration in the popular field of cybersecurity. For now, the concentration will be available to those with a declared major in computer science & mathematics, or a declared major or minor in computer science. The minor will require a minimum of 12 credits (three courses), including computer and network security; networks and web development; and a choice of global security, human-computer interaction, data and ethics, or data and democracy.
