Post COP26: Outcomes for Climate Justice Discussed Nov. 18

Professors Benjamin and Powers join others to discuss goals for climate action and how COP26 outcomes delivered on promises made.

The COP26 summit in Glasgow brought parties together to accelerate action toward the goals of the Paris Agreement and the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change.

At the Post COP26 webinar, Lewis & Clark Law professors join the Climate and Energy Director of CIEL (Center for International Environmental Law), to review goals and actions taken at COP26. The webinar takes place Thursday November 18, 12 noon PST.

The event is co-sponsored by the Green Energy Institute and the Lewis & Clark Law School Environmental Program. Professor Melissa Powers and Professor Lisa Benjamin will discuss temperature goals, the international carbon market (Article 6 of the Paris Agreement), the need to revisit questions of loss and damage to support the most vulnerable populations unable to adapt, and climate finance that cuts across all issues. Nikki Reisch from the Center for International Environmental Law joins the professors to discuss whether the outcome in Glasgow really delivered on the promises made in Paris.

Akriti Bhargava, a 3L law student, will be moderating the panel. Bhargava is pursuing certificates in Energy and Sustainability Law, and International Law. Before law school, Akriti worked for Sierra Club’s Beyond Coal campaign.

Oregon State Bar CLE credit is pending for participation in this webinar.

The webinar is free, but participants must register online.
