Bieberich Appointed Interim Dean of Diversity and Inclusion, Cale Hired as New Program Manager of OEI
Associate Dean of Equity and Inclusion and Title IX Coordinator Casey Bieberich has been promoted to Interim Dean of Equity and Inclusion effective December 1. Bieberich replaces Mark Figueroa, who is leaving the college to assume a new leadership role at Moreno Valley College in California.
Bieberich will be assisted in her new role by Jaime Cale, who was recently hired as program manager for the Office of Equity and Inclusion.
“Casey has done a great job as our associate dean of Equity and Inclusion and Title IX coordinator,” President Wiewel said in announcing Bieberich’s appointment. “I’m so glad she’s willing to take on this additional responsibility on an interim basis.” Wiewel said a search for a permanent dean of Equity and Inclusion will be launched in the near future.
Bieberich joined the L&C family in March 2020. She came to L&C from the University of Southern California where she worked as a senior investigator in the Office of Equity and Diversity. Prior to her time at USC, Bieberich had worked as an investigator for the Portland City Auditor’s office and the Multnomah County Department of Human Resources.
Bieberich received her BA in Latin American Studies from Wellesley College and her JD from Willamette University.
Jaime Cale comes to L&C with a background in social work and community organizing. In her most recent position with Portland Public Schools, she was an advocate for antiracist education/racial equity, and worked with multi-disciplinary teams to plan and implement a family resource center.
“The Office of Equity and Inclusion feels truly lucky to be able to welcome Jaime Cale as our new program manager,” Bieberich said. “Jaime brings a wealth of skill and experience in group facilitation and grappling directly with difficult questions within community settings. Jaime’s lived experience and background in Portland schools and community groups will be a huge benefit not only to individuals on our campus, but to our efforts in building and enhancing Portland connections. Please join me in providing a very warm welcome to Jaime!”
Growing up in Portland, Cale has a deep knowledge of Portland’s historically excluded communities. She received her BS from the University of Portland and her MSW in Social Work from Portland State University.
As program manager Cale will be responsible for a mix of roles including:
- serving as a resource for students regarding issues of institutional equity,
- providing opportunities for community-wide engagement such as discussion groups,
- providing administrative support for reports of bias-based conduct, and
- supporting our office as well as our institution-wide Committee on Equity and Inclusion.
