New Title IX Coordinator Appointed

Casey Bieberich, interim dean for equity and inclusion and Title IX coordinator, informed President Holmes-Sullivan in July that she would be leaving Lewis & Clark. Her last day will be Monday, August 8.

President Holmes-Sullivan thanked Bieberich for her service to Lewis & Clark. “Nothing is more important than the work we do here at Lewis & Clark to ensure everyone feels included and valued,” the president said. “Casey has been a leader in that work and I am very grateful for that. We wish her the very best in her future endeavors.”

Dr. Danielle Torres will take over as Dean of Equity and Inclusion on August 15. An accomplished scholar, researcher, and educator at the Graduate School of Education and Counseling, Torres was appointed to the deanship in late May.

“I wish Dr. Torres all the success in her new role, and encourage everyone to actively support her.” Bieberich said. “I am very excited about her appointment and the future of the Office of Equity and Inclusion. I see a lot of great energy and potential for this important work to grow and thrive under her leadership.”

Lori Makin-Byrd will serve as interim Title IX coordinator, beginning August 8, until an ongoing appointment can be made. She can be reached at lmakin-byrd@lclark.edu. Makin-Byrd is a Title IX expert who works with Grand River Solutions, a national Title IX consulting firm. Lewis & Clark has worked with Grand River Solutions for several years.

Information about Title IX at Lewis & Clark, including how to seek assistance and how to file a complaint (a process which remains unchanged), can be found on the Title IX Compliance webpage. In addition to Makin-Byrd as interim Title IX coordinator, the college continues to have four experienced deputy Title IX coordinators: Janet Bixby (Graduate School), Libby Davis (Law School), Elaine Hirsch (College of Arts and Sciences), and Heyke Kirkendall-Baker (Human Resources). All of the Title IX coordinators are a resource to any member of the Lewis & Clark community who may need assistance.
