Mission Statement for White Shield Center Empowering adolescent girls to lead healthy and productive lives in their families and communities Department: White Shield Center-Early Learning Center Position Title: Part time Aide II FLSA Status: Hourly, as needed – maximum 20 hours/week Supervisor: Director Early Learning Center General Description and Purpose of Position This role incorporates evidence-based and/or best practice methods in delivery of services for infants and toddlers in the White Shield Early Intervention Center (ELC) and the moms whose children are served by ELC. This is often accomplished through casual instruction and modeling to strengthen appropriate behaviors for positive parenting. The Aide II works alongside teachers in both the infant and toddler classrooms to provide high quality care and education. The Aide II may be unsupervised with infants and toddlers during transitions and assisting toddlers in toileting. Qualifications Education: Working towards a CDA or Associate degree in Early Childhood Education, Early Intervention, or a related field. Experience: 1 year of experience working with infants and/or toddlers in a certified childcare Setting or comparable group care program. Qualities/Knowledge: Excellent verbal and written communications skills Ability to implement services in a culturally-responsive and trauma-informed manner Knowledge of best practices in gender-specific services, especially females Understanding of human development, particularly early childhood and adolescence Ability to work independently and as a productive team member Initiative Flexibility and adaptability Critical thinking skills Compassion and patience Minimum: Physical ability to perform job responsibilities Valid Driver’s License Must pass a background check CPR/First Aid Certified Health and Safety Trainings through the Oregon Department of Education Current Food Handlers card Essential Responsibilities/Duties a. Assist in supervising all children and the children’s environment for physical safety and emotional well-being b. Carry out all policies which ensure the safety, health, and well-being of children in ELC as according to the regulations of the Child Care Division, Health Department, The Salvation Army, and White Shield Center. c. Collaborate with Lead Teachers to provide insight for screening and assessments for each child d. Assist in implementing daily routines and activities according to Lead Teacher’s curriculum and lesson plans e. Work with Portland Public Schools Early Intervention Team and Multnomah Early Childhood Program to establish, work toward, and collect data on goals for children who qualify for Early Intervention Services. f. Collaborate with ELC team to carry out Interventions for unsafe behaviors of children g. Maintain organized records on children’s daily sheets and write Incident Reports as needed. Working Conditions  Must be able to operate a motor vehicle in a safe and reliable manner. This position may require driving to meetings in the local community, conferences across the State of Oregon, or for community outreach efforts on behalf of service recipients and the agency.  Employee is regularly required to walk, stand, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach or sit for long periods. The employee must be able to regularly lift or move up to 20 pounds, frequently lift or move up to 35 pounds and occasionally lift or move up to 70 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close, distance, color, ability to adjust focus and depth perception.  Ability to manage multiple projects with deadlines.  Employee will work with technology equipment such as computers, copiers, faxes, projectors, and multi-line phones.  Employee may work with population that demonstrates unpredictable, impulsive and sometimes aggressive behavior.  Must practice Universal Precautions as employee may come into contact with blood, urine, feces, or other bodily fluids.
