Ahmed Al Badi has more than 35 years of experience in the government and private sector. He has served his country, his region, and the international community with distinction in many ways over the years. Between 1981 and 2014, he led strategic positions in the government of United Arab Emirates including Minister of Health (1990-1995), Minister of Oil and Natural Resources, Vice President of OPEC, Chairman of the Executive Board of the Arab Ministers of Health, Establisher and Chairman of the Executive Board of the Federal Environment Agency, Chairman of the Executive Board of Emirates Petroleum (1993-1995), Member of the Advisory Board of Eastern Mediterranean Regional Organization – World Health Organization (1993-2001), Member of the Board of Trustees of Emirates Foundation, a philanthropic organization set up by the Government of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi (2006-2013), Member of the Board of Abu Dhabi Council for Economic Development - an economic policy advisory council established by law in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi (2010-2015).
He also assisted in the establishment of the Treasury Department at the Abu Dhabi Investment Authority in 1983, which he then headed for seven years. He was a president of the Forty-Fifth World Health Assembly and has served on several boards as founder, member and chairman including the Arab Investment Company – KSA, Abu Dhabi Commercial Bank, General Industrial Corp. – Abu Dhabi, Higher Committee of the Environment and Abu Dhabi International Private School.
He is currently on the Boards of the Gulf Capital, ARAMEX, Emirates Insurance, WorldCare International and on the Board of Trustees of Lewis & Clark College –USA.
He is also a Chairman of the Board of Belbadi Enterprises, a UAE-based institution focused on the needs of the UAE, GCC and Global markets. The company has played a significant role in the development of the local and regional economy by identifying and responding to emerging needs and requirements. It currently includes areas of oilfield services, energy and power generation, engineering, land development, construction, manufacturing, automobile distribution, financial and investment services.
Al Badi received his BA in International Relations from Lewis & Clark College in 1981. In 1996, he received the Outstanding Young Alumni award from the Lewis & Clark Alumni Association. He is a family man and father of four children, residing in Abu Dhabi.
