Roy Smith

Roy Smith BS ’85 has lived and worked in Denver for the last 30 years, soaking up the sun, low humidity, and abundant skiing and biking opportunities. Smith works for the U.S. Department of the Interior, Bureau of Land Management, covering a territory incorporating all of Colorado and Utah. He serves as the program lead for streamflow protection, water rights, and wild and scenic rivers. Smith and Kim Riley BA ’86 have been married for 32 years. They have two daughters: Elena, who graduated from the University of Redlands in 2018, and Marie, who graduated from Loyola Marymount University in 2020. They’ve taken many international family trips over the years, but the highlight was a 2017 jaunt to New Zealand, where Smith and Riley first met on a Lewis & Clark overseas study program.
