Kayak & Hike Yurt Trip

  • Picture shows a man wearing a blue jacket and yellow life-jacket sitting in a green kayak in the center of the image. Behind him is two plant-covered cliffsides connected by a bridge in the upper right side of the photo.
  • Picture shows an ocean on the beach with a person in the distance walking near the water edge in the center of the photo. On the right side, there is a large rock with some trees growing on top of it.
  • Picture shows an above view of a row of eleven colorful kayaks in the water tied up to the shoreline. In the foreground of the image, four people walk down a steep hill towards the kayaks.
  • Picture Shows the interior of a yurt. The room is round with wood floors and fabric walls with wooden structural supports. On the left side of the image is a wood bunk bed and on the right side is an open futon. The beds have green matresses.

Less than two hours west of Portland lies Fort Stevens State Park, a gorgeous destination of ocean beaches, coastal temperate rain forests, lakes, and wetlands which make it the perfect place for days of kayaking and hiking.

We’ll explore some peaceful stretches of coastal lakes where you can see great blue heron, bald eagles, and even otter. No kayaking experience is necessary - we’ll teach you everything you need to know! On land, we’ll explore the hiking trails, fascinating history of the park, hike on wild Pacific Ocean beaches, and maybe even play a round of disk golf. At night we’ll stay in cozy yurts or cabins, or sleep solo in a tent.

This trip was originally to be based at Champoeg State Park, but we couldn’t obtain enough cabin or yurt reservations there- the detailed trip description covers the original plan at Champoeg.
