11/11/2020

Jonathan C. Schnal JD ’03 died in Rawlins, Wyoming, on October 7, 2020. He was 52 years old.

Jonathan was born and raised on the Monterey Peninsula in northern California, where his father’s career as an attorney and love of the outdoors influenced Jonathan’s future. He earned a BA in history an MA in land use planning from Humboldt State University before he began working as a county planner in Arcata and Quincy, California, and in Rawlins. Jonathan later obtained admission to the bar associations in Washington, California, and Wyoming, ultimately returning to Carbon County, Wyoming, to open his own law firm in Saratoga in 2013.

Jonathan loved the small-town rural life and tight-knit communities he found in Wyoming, and he never tired of the natural beauty of the Platte Valley. As his health deteriorated, he was lovingly cared for by the generous community of Calvary Church Encampment.

Jonathan is preceded in death by his parents, Joyce and Richard Schnal. He will be deeply missed by his sister and brother-in-law, Rachel and Mark Silber; niece and nephew, Maya and Noah; and best friend, Erik Gantenbein.
