Stu was born in Toledo, Oregon, on June 3, 1939. At Oregon State University, he had a chance encounter with a recruiter that changed the trajectory of his life. Stu continued as a Marines flight instructor in Orange, California. He would eventually retire from the Marine Corps as a lieutenant colonel after 20 years of active and reserve duty.

Stu married Phyllis Aber, whom he met in Orange, in 1966. Not long after, they moved to Oregon so that he could attend law school.

Stu practiced law in Lake Grove and Lake Oswego for 30 years. He fought for the underdog and took pride in significant wins against corporate bureaucracies. In his retirement, he assisted his veteran friends with accessing veterans’ benefits.

Stu is survived by his wife, Phyllis; daughters Lisa, Stephanie, and Angela; sister Karen Randolph; grandchildren Jaya, Jake, Emily, Johnny Oscar, and Lila; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
