Simran is a Third Culture Kid (TCK) who was born in India and grew up in Hong Kong and Singapore. She attended the United World College of S.E. Asia (UWCSEA) in Singapore for high school. Following UWCSEA, she attended Lewis & Clark College as a Davis scholar.
An international affairs major at L&C, Simran also served on the international student government (ISLC). While at L&C, Simran gained a broad understanding of international politics. In 2011, she graduated with a Master’s in Public Policy from the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy at the National University of Singapore. Her time at the National University of Singapore enabled her to build an understanding of S.E. Asian politics and policy making. In addition, she has received formal training in exercising and implementing leadership from experts at the National University of Singapore as well as the Harvard Kennedy School. During her time as a master’s student she interned with the Public Utilities Board in Singapore as well as with UNICEF. Simran is currently a doctoral candidate in public policy at the University of Maryland. Her training is in international environmental policy, with a focus on first-generation biofuel policy in S.E. Asia.
Apart from focusing on her doctoral dissertation, Simran enjoys exploring arts and theater events in the DC area, travelling and cooking. Some of the countries she has travelled to include Vietnam, Thailand and Taiwan. She is also a meditator and yoga enthusiast, with a focus on science-based wellness practices.
