At first, going from Somalia (Somaliland) to UWCEA in Tanzania which are all in east Africa made me feel unlucky to get the best international experience. However, after joining the UWCEA community with rich diversity, I learned that getting a great international experience doesn’t solely depend on the geographical location, but also on the community. I enjoyed getting to know people from all over the world with different cultures, beliefs, and backgrounds. Though we were all different, UWCEA made us one big family that cares and supports each other.
I have always wanted to go to a small-size college with a strong academic system and a beautiful campus. After doing some research and talking to a friend from UWCEA who went to L&C before me, I learned that Lewis and Clark with its tight-knit community, and beautiful campus in the city of nature, Portland, really meets my expectations. Therefore, I made Lewis and Clark my first choice and fortunately succeeded. At Lewis and Clark, I want to major in economics and increase my knowledge of business studies. This will help me in the future to work for and later establish my own company. I also like to keep improving my knowledge in environmental science and work with organizations that are dedicated to conserving the environment.
My interests outside of class in terms of sports include: playing basketball, biking, running, and playing soccer. I started to play basketball in my two years at UWCEA and it has now become one of my favorite sports. I want to keep playing and improving my basketball skills at Lewis and Clark. I really enjoyed biking since a young age and now look forward to biking around Portland. Moreover, running in my free time gives me motivation and energy to improve on my daily duties such as academic work. By biking combined with running, I shall explore the beautiful nature around Lewis and Clark. Besides sports, I enjoy traveling and having a good time with friends.
