Maddie Herrup is originally from Pittsburgh, PA, and recently graduated from Brandeis University in Boston, MA where she studied Anthropology and Public Health. Prior to coming to PDX Hillel, she worked as a student intern at Diller Teen Fellows in Boston. For the last year, she has been at JFCS in Boston helping to oversee the TeenSafe program. TeenSafe teaches Boston area teens on issues of teen dating violence and domestic violence, and gives them the tools to bring their knowledge and resources into the larger community.
Another one of the focuses of her social justice work is mental health advocacy, and incorporating mindfulness and contemplative practices (such as meditation and prayer) into her work. Her intention is to bring this to every interaction she has in my work, and uplift others in their identities and in their Judaism.
