What three words would you use to describe L&C?

Challenging, Unique, Eye Opening

What’s your favorite class? How has it expanded your knowledge?

Exploration and Discovery with Jon Arakaki. This course offered an in-depth view as to why society is obsessed with the lives of celebrities. I learned to see celebrities from a different perspective, looking deeper into who they are and how they got so famous, which has always been an interest of mine.

What made you want to come to Lewis & Clark?

I wanted the opportunity to play football and obtain a great education, and L&C provided both.

If you have studied or will study overseas while at Lewis & Clark, how did you choose your program? What did your overseas study add to your L&C experience so far?

I plan on studying overseas in France. I’ve always had this dream of living in a foreign country and soaking in the culture. France offers both the opportunity for me to practice all the French that I’ve learned and experience a new culture first hand.

Congrats on winning Rookie of the Year at the 2018 ELCYs! How do you balance athletics and academics?

Thanks! I think a big part of balancing athletics and academics is time management. I had to figure out how to use all my free time wisely, whether that was finishing my homework, lifting weights, or simply relaxing and hanging with friends. Another aspect is support from friends and professors that are willing to help.

What advice do you have for prospective students?

Academically, L&C is a challenging school and will force you to push your boundaries, but in the end these things will help you grow and prosper.

What’s your favorite thing about living in Portland?

Being from Hawai‘i, we really only have one season: summer. Portland offers all four seasons and that was one thing I wanted to experience on the mainland. I also like the balance between city and greenery. Portland has just the right mix of skyscrapers and trees.

How do you manage stress?

I make sure that for as much stress that school can bring, I counteract that with spending time with my friends and completely forgetting about school when I’m with them. In other words, just live in the moment. You might be stressed now but sooner or later you’ll be enjoying life.
