What’s your favorite class? How has it expanded your knowledge?

Definitely, one of my favorite classes was Economic Development taught by Professor Aine McCarthy. It has been one of the most formative classes I have had in terms of showing me how the intersection between international affairs and economics plays out in the real world and most importantly, the lives of individuals.

What made you want to come to Lewis & Clark?

Lewis & Clark was the option that offered me the most of what I needed from my college experience. As an international student, I felt there were many factors that made other colleges unfit for me. What I found at LC was not only a very supportive system in terms of financial and academic needs, but also an institution where a broader awareness of the world is brought in through class discussions, overseas programs, and smaller communities within the wider college community.

How did you get involved with Inclusion and Multicultural Engagement? What has your involvement with IME added to your L&C experience?

In my first year, I decided to apply to the peer educator position at IME. As a student from Mexico in an American college community, I believe it very necessary to contribute to conversations about multiculturalism and inclusion, especially in today’s socio-political context. My experience in IME has allowed me to understand better these type of conversations and how they shape communities and society as a whole. Moreover, it gave me the opportunity to learn how to create these spaces of dialogue.

How have you felt supported as an international student at Lewis & Clark?

In many ways. Lewis & Clark has a great understanding of the experience of international students, and how we can contribute and shape spaces in our college community. I have been very grateful of this understanding because it is really evidenced through the care and help we receive from various individuals on campus, specifically those in the international students and scholars office. Whether it is providing spaces for international students (such as the annual International Fair), financial aid and tax advice, or just a moment for conversation, any student from abroad can be sure to find a support system here that will enrich and help them create their college experience.
