Ben Pirie JD ’12 has joined Miller Nash’s leading cannabis industry team in the firm’s Portland office. Pirie advises on mergers and acquisitions, negotiating complex contracts and corporate governance, as well as regulatory compliance in the emerging cannabis and hemp industries. He has helped cannabis clients from labs to retailers to obtain and keep every type of recreational marijuana license and is experienced in structuring complex transactions that provide cannabis brands with access to interstate markets without violating state laws or federal enforcement priorities. Pirie has been recognized nationally for his work in the cannabis industry as a “Leader in Their Field” by Chambers USA, and currently serves on the executive committee of the Oregon State Bar Cannabis Law Section.

Ben Pirie JD ’12, who is part of the Lane Powell cannabis team, has been elected to the executive committee of Oregon State Bar’s Cannabis Law Section. Pirie counsels cannabis businesses on a wide range of corporate and regulatory legal issues, including mergers and acquisitions, negotiating complex contracts, and corporate governance, as well as regulatory compliance in the emerging cannabis and hemp industries. The Cannabis Law Section seeks to educate and promote cannabis law among Oregon lawyers and judges, and serves as a resource for lawyers who monitor federal enforcement activities and defend against federal government interference in a state’s lawful cannabis activities.

Pirie brings his experience as in-house counsel for a Fortune 1000 company in Portland to bear on Oregon’s emerging cannabis industry, where he advises clients on business transactions, contracts, entity formation and management, securities compliance, corporate governance, intellectual property, mergers and acquisitions, state and local administrative law, and employment matters. Results-oriented and responsive, Pirie has helped clients from labs to retailers on their terms and timelines to get and keep every type of recreational-marijuana license from the Oregon Liquor Control Commission. In addition to advising clients, Pirie is active in engaging with state and local governments in order to ensure common-sense, business-friendly regulation of the marijuana industry.
