  • Greater Portland Hillel staff receive the Susan Rudd Cohen Outstanding Campus Award in Atlanta.

    Recently, Hillel International presented awards to individuals and campuses for creating innovative experiences and meaningful connections for students to develop stronger ties to their Jewish identities. The Greater Portland Hillel—which serves Lewis & Clark College, Portland State University, and Reed College—received Hillel International’s highest honor, the Phillip H. and Susan Rudd Cohen Outstanding Campus Award.

    Lewis & Clark’s first TEDx event gave three undergraduate students and three local speakers the opportunity to take the stage and “deconstruct” the topic of their choice. The success of the event can be credited to the student-run team of organizers, headed by coleaders Tuse Mahenya BA ’21 and Ariel McGee BA ’21.

    From January 12 to 17, 33 Lewis & Clark students from around the United States and across the globe immersed themselves in the study of entrepreneurship and leadership. A perennial favorite offering of the John E. and Susan S. Bates Center for Entrepreneurship and Leadership, Winterim is a weeklong experience bringing students, speakers, and mentors together to explore what it means to be an entrepreneur.

    Lewis & Clark’s performance at the Linfield College tournament dominated the field, with the team winning three of the tournament’s five events, as well as its top individual honor. For more than fifty years, Lewis & Clark’s forensics program has trained and produced national-caliber debaters and critical thinkers.

    For the fourth time in five years, academic leaders from around the nation have identified our Overseas and Off-Campus Programs as among the best in the nation. Lewis & Clark, where more than 60 percent of students study abroad, is the only school in the Pacific Northwest to make the list this year.

    Putting their summers to good use, Lewis & Clark’s Rogers Science fellows will present their research findings to their professors and peers at a weekly ‘Brown Bag’ session. While the program is open specifically to students of math and science, the skills they develop—tenacity, creative thinking, and strong presentation skills—are valuable across all fields of study.
