Bellevue College
1. Bellevue College (located in Bellevue, WA, a close-in suburb of Seattle) is in the process of creating a Living Learning Community for its residence halls. Since Lewis & Clark has such a robust LLC, it would be great if BC could leverage the perspective of an LC student, particularly if there is an LC student who has experience in an LLC. 2. There are two health-related bachelor’s programs that are interested in supervising an intern (likely scenario is that one intern would split their time working in the two programs). The programs are the Healthcare Management & Leadership Bachelor of Applied Science and the Health & Wellness Bachelor of Applied Science. Both programs will be working on admitting students for fall, and also be end
Flexible start/end dates, depending on number of interns and number of programs. If there is an intern available beginning in early to mid-May, that intern could support some year-end events (Bellevue College graduation is June 26) as well as admissions and marketing related activities. For the two academic programs, I envision 20-25 hours/week. For the LLC project, maybe 10-15 hours/week. It may be possible for one intern to support the two academic programs as well as the LLC project, i.e., 40 hours/week.

West Multnomah Soil & Water Conservation District
We are a publicly funded special district conservation organization, and our mission is to provide resources, education, and expertise to inspire people to actively improve air and water quality, fish and wildlife habitat, and soil health. We help residents of Multnomah County west of the Willamette River, all of Sauvie Island including the Columbia County portion of the Island, and a portion of the Bonny Slope region of the north Tualatin Mountains in Washington County. Many of our services include conservation planning, invasive weed management, establishing native plants, livestock management, grant funding, wildlife habitat restoration, healthy forests, and school gardens. We are offering one Business Continuity Intern the opportunity to experience supporting the operations that make our important conservation work possible. This will not be a field-based internship. The primary project will be to work with members of the district’s Leadership Team to help develop critical components of a new Business Continuity Plan that we are in the beginning stages of developing. The completed plan will guide the reestablishment of operations in the aftermath of a disaster or other disruption resulting in reduced staff. Additional opportunities for skill development as time allows may include infographic work to be used in external publications (budget presentations, long-range business plans) and development of content (written or video) for the website, newsletter, and social media. As with our Field Conservation Interns, the Business Continuity Intern will be welcomed as a member of our staff for the duration of the internship and will be invited to attend monthly All-Staff meetings, and other meetings or virtual events that include the entire staff.
This internship is estimated to begin July 1, 2021 and end August 31, 2021, with the possibility of a flexible start day in mid-June. It will be an 8-week internship with 20-25 hours worked per week.

We will break the project (plan) into several sections that the intern will have the opportunity to work on and complete as time allows, and thus be able to walk away with a set of completed deliverables, if not a fully created plan. Please also note that all work-related digital communications (emails, texts) and products created during work hours will be public record and subject to any FOIA requests.

Global Electronics Council (GEC)
The Global Electronics Council (GEC) is a mission-driven non-profit launched in 2006 and dedicated to creating a more just and sustainable world. Our focus on electronics is due to our recognition that electronics have become increasingly pervasive, finding their way into products within our home, car, clothing, toys, and even the watches we wear. While the technologies that rely on electronics can provide tremendous societal good, they are also the source of significant negative environmental and social impacts.

GEC’s Ecolabels and Resources team is responsible for ensuring that EPEAT remains a credible, impactful Type 1 ecolabel that purchasers can trust. Our team focuses on developing policies and guidance that govern how EPEAT operates; managing the EPEAT Conformity Assurance system (which is how we verify that participating companies meet our requirements); and providing educational support to the participating companies to help them understand what is expected for EPEAT’s higher levels of sustainability performance. As the Ecolabels and Resources Intern, you will support our efforts through the following activities: • Reviewing publicly available information to assess whether EPEAT-registered products continue to meet EPEAT requirements. These surveillance activities are an important part of our monitoring framework and crucial in protecting the credibility of the EPEAT Program. • Using information from the above, together with additional research, identify trends in how companies incorporate EPEAT requirements into their business practices. We are interested in understanding whether the size or geographic location of a company affects how it meets EPEAT Criteria, and whether these factors vary by product category. The Intern is expected to develop a research report summarizing key findings and trends, and to present their work to the GEC team. • Improving some of our guidance materials for participating companies. GEC acts as the fulcrum point between the institutional purchasers who buy electronics and the manufacturers who produce them. We support large-scale purchasers, both public and private, with tools and resources. By deciding to buy sustainable technology, institutional purchasers leverage their purchasing decisions towards creating a more sustainable and just world. At GEC we do important work, and we are looking for an intern to join our team who shares our passion for sustainable technology and understands the remarkable power of ecolabels to deliver measurable environmental and social benefits!

Lloyd EcoDistrict
Lloyd EcoDistrict is a place-based nonprofit working to making Lloyd the most sustainable neighborhood in North America. Lloyd EcoDistrict engages the community, forms partnerships, and develops programs that create a connected, prosperous, and resilient neighborhood. We set goals and implement initiatives where people, planet, and profit are considered equally. We do this in a way that creates replicable models so that other communities may learn and benefit from our successes. We are looking for a Pollinator Placemaking Intern to assist in developing and supporting our Pollinator Placemaking programmatic area initiatives. Placemaking is critical to the continued success of our collective impact work because our organization’s work is often invisible (like energy efficiency and waste prevention). We strive to find ways to unite people by engaging in projects that create collective impact in our community and places that beautify, support the climate and educate. We harness the power of placemaking and biophilia (a natural human tendency to love nature) through our Pollinator Placemaking programs. Specific projects the intern may work on include: • Pollinator Corridor: On the streets of Lloyd neighborhood we find spaces in the right of way or along property boundaries where we can add native pollinator plants, either through community work parties or property owner incentives. This becomes an ongoing opportunity for us to green up the neighborhood and educate people about the importance of these plants and the invertebrates and birds who pollinate them. In 2021 we will be expanding the corridor and implementing new educational signage, a related mural campaign, and organization replanting events • Peace Memorial Park: This park is a collective impact project which brings together veterans, open space enthusiasts, social justice activists and neighbors in Lloyd to revitalize a forgotten and hard to maintain peace memorial. We do this through community work parties, workshops, fundraising, and eventually the reconstruction of this space to include fresh landscape, storytelling and public art. • Pollinator Landscaping Guide: This guide will help property owners and businesses do small and big improvements to the land surrounding their buildings in Lloyd. We envision all of Lloyd being a haven, a habitat for pollinators, and perennial native plants. We will work on finalizing the guide, giving presentations, and developing relationships with the local business community and landscaping experts.
10-15 weeks starting in late May/early July and wrapping up in August. (flexible) 10-20 hours/week depending on intern availability/interest.

Green Hammer
A pioneer of Oregon’s green building movement, Stephen Aiguier founded Green Hammer in 2002. The company was one of the first green builders in Oregon to focus solely on environmentally friendly building. By 2009, Green Hammer had built five of the first LEED-Platinum homes in the United States, trained numerous staff as Passive House consultants, and grew into a full-service design-build firm. Green Hammer is now leading the nation in Zero energy design and is one of just 16 firms nationally on track to meet the AIA’s 2030 commitment that all new buildings will be carbon neutral by 2030. After becoming certified in April 2017, Green Hammer joined a global community of more than 2,000 Certified B Corporations that have one unifying goal – to redefine business success and empower business to solve our most pressing social and environmental problems. Every day, B-Corporations are seeking ways to improve their business operations to become an even bigger force for change in their communities and the world. Green Hammer seeks to divert solid waste from the landfill, incineration (waste-to-energy), and the environment. By targeting a 90% diversion rate, Green Hammer aims to: 1. Save financial and environmental costs by reducing waste and disposal fees. 2. Streamline jobsite recycling and salvage operations to minimize waste and maximize diversion to recycling and reuse. 3. Improve efficient ordering and use of materials to reduce waste in Green Hammer’s material supply chain. 4. Improve Green Hammer sustainable practices and support the triple bottom line: People, Planet, and Prosperity To support this effort, Green Hammer is seeking support from an intern who will be responsible for auditing and reviewing Green Hammer’s current waste management practices and analyze their impact including waste output levels, financial costs and any other observed significant impacts on the company, its projects, or the community. The intern will be researching improvement opportunities for all aspects of material use reductions and waste diversion, from the design process to purchasing, on-site material and waste handling, and recovering waste material for reuse and recycling. The intern in this role will need to be a self-starter and responsible for championing this work.

Equity Equity is a core value of Washington County Health and Human Services. Employees are expected to honor the life experiences of all individuals with whom they come into contact and recognize the impact of past injustices, microaggressions and trauma. Employees are expected to value alternative perspectives, embrace differences and approach each individual and situation with a willingness to learn and grow while actively challenging discrimination throughout their entire scope of work. Leading with race In our ongoing commitment to promote public interest and maintain public trust, it is important that Washington County and its staff acknowledge the existence of systemic and structural racism inherent in government entities. We understand that over the course of our nation’s history, these structural barriers have led to policies, procedures and practices which disproportionately affect people of color in virtually all conditions of social existence. By leading with racial equity, we have learned that organizations are able to reduce barriers for people of color and achieve equitable outcomes for all, while at the same time build or increase understanding in the dominant culture. Leading with a racial equity framework does not exclude other oppressed identities. In fact, by leading with race, other identity markers are also addressed as race cuts across all forms of identities. By focusing on solutions to issues that negatively impact our communities of color, and by then broadening those solutions to include as many people as possible, we are able to make improvements for all communities.

Oregon Environmental Council
Oregon Environmental Council brings Oregonians together to protect the water, air, and land we all share and love. We advocate for impactful, lasting solutions that get at the source of Oregon’s environmental problems and have real benefits for people’s health and quality of life. Our goals are a stable climate that safeguards our communities and economy; clean and plentiful water that supports people, fish and wildlife; and healthy homes and neighborhoods free of air pollution and hazardous chemicals. The Oregon Environmental Council (OEC) is interested in exploring the potential to add staff capacity to engage businesses and individuals directly to advance private-sector sustainability initiatives that would complement our longstanding focus on public policy solutions. As we evaluate our options, we are looking for an intern with both good research and outreach skills to help us address key considerations. These include: who is already offering these services in Oregon within both the for-profit and NGO sectors, who they are targeting, and what services are they providing? What is the level of interest in advancing sustainability among businesses that aren’t already significantly engaged in doing so? For businesses that already are, are there barriers/opportunities we can address to enable them to become more engaged? Among individuals, what types of information are people most interested in and what is the best way of reaching them? In other words, where are the best opportunities for OEC to add value?
