Groups for Fall 2023

The Student Counseling Center is offering six groups for students this semester! We have three therapy groups with pre-registration required and three workshop series with walk-ins welcome. Please see below for flyers with additional information about each group.

Flyer for Koru Mindfulness & Meditation Group

Koru Mindfulness

When: 3:30-4:45 select Tuesdays in October (10/10, 10/17, 10/24, and 10/31)

What: A four week class focusing on mindfulness and meditation. Developed at Duke University, this program grew out of Jon Kabat-Zinn’s Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction, a program teaching mindfulness and meditation. It was modified over the years to meet the particular needs of college and graduate students. Koru has been shown to reduce stress, improve sleep, and enhance mindfulness and self-compassion in young adults.

Flyer for Healing from Unwanted Sexual Experiences Group

Healing from Unwanted Sexual Experiences

Open to all LC students, inclusive of gender identities, sexual orientations, races/ethnicities and abilities.

When: Mondays 4:00-5:30pm (if you can’t make this time, please let us know in case of time change)

What: No cost educational and therapeutic support group for people who have experienced sexual trauma.

Where: LC Student Counseling Center - Odell Lower Level, Office #012

This group will provide an opportunity for survivors to connect with each other and explore issues that come up in “real life”. Combination of discussion, information, and activities. Our goal will be to build skills to manage and reduce distressing thoughts and feelings, expand coping strategies, share experiences, create a greater sense of safety with self and others, and gain a greater understanding of how trauma may be resolved to reduce negative impact. Requires a pre-group appointment (20 – 30 minutes) to discuss the structure and purpose of the group. Navigating the BIPOC Experience in Life

When: Wednesdays 4:30-5:30pm

What: 7 Week Therapy Group. Process one’s experience of race and culture in environments that lend themselves to marginalization, discrimination (othering), discomfort, and opposing perspectives. Facilitated Christabel Léonce, PsyD.

The Let Out

When: Every 2nd and 4th Thursday, 5:30 pm - 6:30 pm

What: A drop-in mental health check-in; not group therapy but a safe place where students can drop in with questions about mental health, how to cope with stressful events around them, and to gain skills for coping.

Where: Lounge space in the IME office, Room 324 of the Fowler Student Center

What: A drop-in skills group to learn how to help manage anxiety while sharing and discussing ideas and strategies with others.

Flyer for Arts & Crafts Grounding & Stress Management Workshop fall 2023

Arts & Crafts for Grounding & Stress Management

When: 11:30am-12:45pm on select Tuesdays fall semester (10/17, 10/27, 11/7, and 11/14)

What: A drop-in workshop where students will be making various craft projects that can help with intense emotions and stress. Each session will start with a short discussion on coping using the five senses. Materials provided and participants will take home what they created. Projects include glitter jars, painting stones, collage, and a small sewing project.
