Financial Aid

for graduate students

October 2019 – February 2020

  • Students who wish to be considered for federal financial aid in 2020-21 should file the 2020-21 FAFSA using 2018 tax information (prior-prior tax year).
    • File online at FAFSA.gov as early as October 1, 2019.
    • Federal school code for Lewis & Clark: 003197.
    • Priority filing deadline: February 15, 2020.

March – June 2020

  • Incoming students
    • Financial aid awards will be released to admitted graduate students starting in mid-March and on a rolling basis thereafter. Incoming students who file the FAFSA by February 15 and are admitted by the end of March should receive a financial aid award notification by early April.
    • Incoming students should submit any additional documentation that is required to finalize their financial aid award (e.g., verification documents) no later than April 15. Check your application status page to see if you have any items outstanding.
    • Admitted students who wish to attend Lewis & Clark must submit the required tuition deposit to the Office of Admissions by the deadline stated in their notice of admission.
  • Continuing students
    • Continuing students are notified if any additional documentation is required to prepare their financial aid award for 2020-21. Documentation should be submitted to the Office of Financial Aid as soon as possible but no later than April 15.
    • In early April financial aid awards will be released to continuing graduate students with complete financial aid applications who are registered for the Summer semester.
    • In late June financial aid awards will be released to continuing graduate students with complete financial aid applications who are not enrolled in Summer but who are registered for the Fall semester.
  • Both
    • Loan processing deadlines
      • April 13, 2020 if you will start the 2020-21 academic year in Summer Session 1. Refunds from financial aid will be available no earlier than the first day of classes in that session: May 4.
      • May 18, 2020 if you will start the 2020-21 academic year in Summer Session 2. Refunds from financial aid will be available no earlier than the first day of classes in that session: June 8.
      • July 1, 2020 if you will start the 2020-21 academic year in Summer Session 3. Refunds from financial aid will be available no earlier than the first day of classes in that session: July 13.

July 2020

August 2020

  • Make sure all steps necessary to secure financial aid are complete so that funding can be applied to your student account at the beginning of the semester.
  • Payment for Fall semester charges that will not be covered by financial aid is due in early August.
  • Familiarize yourself with Lewis & Clark’s policy on refunds and set your preferences in the Student Account Center. It is strongly recommended that you enroll in direct deposit to expedite access to refunds.

September 2020

  • The earliest date that Fall 2020 refunds from financial aid will be available is the first day of classes: September 8, 2020.

October 2020

  • The 2021-22 FAFSA will be available October 1, 2020.
    • File your aid application using 2019 tax information (prior-prior tax year). It is strongly recommended that you use the IRS Data Retrieval Tool to transfer your income information.
    • Federal school code for Lewis & Clark: 003197.
    • Priority filing deadline: February 15, 2021.

November 2020

  • Billing statements for Spring semester charges are sent to students in mid-November. Check the Student Account Center for the most current account information.

December 2020

  • Payment for Spring semester charges that will not be covered by financial aid is due in mid-December.

January 2021

  • The earliest date that Spring 2021 refunds from financial aid will be available for all graduate students is the first day of classes: January 11, 2021.

February 2021

  • 2021-22 FAFSA priority filing deadline: February 15, 2021.

* Note: Students may process loans throughout the academic year, but meeting the deadlines included in the timeline above will ensure that your loans disburse to your student account at the earliest possible date. Unborrowed loan eligibility expires at the end of the Spring semester.
