Student Health Insurance Benefits and Rates for 2020-2021
The Student Health Insurance Plan benefits and premiums for the 2020-21 academic year have been confirmed.
Lewis & Clark students utilized the student health insurance plan very heavily in the last two years - students actually received nearly as many paid benefits in claims under the plan as they paid in premiums. As a result, the premiums for the plan are increasing for 2020-21.
Premiums for the 2020-21 health insurance plan are listed below. Premiums are assessed twice yearly, for fall and spring semester, and provide students with 12 months of health insurance coverage. The student health insurance plan provides access to both a local and national provider network. Click the links below to find details for the 2020-21 academic year plan.
*The fall premium for first year law students only will be $1,690 as their insurance will become effective August 14, 2020. Their spring/summer premium will be $1,678.50. For all other undergraduate and law students enrolled in the student health insurance plan, fall coverage is effective on August 15, 2020.
**Pro-rated premiums are available for GSEC students attending summer session(s).
For 2020-2021, PacificSource will continue to be the insurance carrier. There will be no changes to plan benefits for 2020-2021. However, there is an important change to the PacificSource provider network for the coming academic year:
Providence Health and Services— a large health system in Oregon— has withdrawn from the PacificSource PPO network, effective March 31, 2020. This change involves only selected providers in the Providence Heathcare system, including the providers of Providence St. Vincent Hospital, Providence Portland Medical Center, Providence Willamette Falls Hospital, Providence Milwaukie Hospital, Providence Newberg Hospital, Providence Seaside Hospital, and Providence Medical Group. Geographically, these Providence providers support the greater Portland-Vancouver area and the northern Oregon Coast. Providence providers in Hood River and Medford, Oregon will continue to remain in the PacificSource PPO networks.
All undergraduate and law students are automatically enrolled in and charged for the student health insurance plan. Students in the Graduate School can opt into the plan, but are not auto-enrolled. If you are an undergraduate or law student, and have comparable health insurance coverage, you can waive enrollment in the student health insurance program. The link to the online waiver form will be available from the homepage of our student health insurance website beginning in mid-July 2020. Waivers must be submitted by the deadline of September 14, 2020.
Enrollment in student health insurance for graduate (GSEC) students for fall 2020 will occur online this year. Enrollment will open on August 1, 2020 and close on October 1. Check back here after August 1 for enrollment instructions.
