Francis W and Jessie L Brodie Memorial Scholarship
The Francis W. and Jessie L. Brodie Memorial Scholarship was established in 1990 through an estate commitment by Dr. Jessie Brodie. Dr. Brodie was the first woman resident in pediatrics at Doernbecher Memorial Hospital for Children. In 1933 she established a family planning clinic in Portland and in 1964 she became the first director of the Portland Planned Parenthood Association’s clinic. Dr. Brodie’s husband, Francis Brodie, was also a doctor. The scholarship is awarded to international students who demonstrate financial need, with preference given to students who are committed to returning to serve in their native countries.
