Executive Board Candidates 2017-2018

Let’s get to know our candidates for ISLC Executive Board 2017 - 2018!

Candidate for President

Vinaya Bharam

My past two years at LC and the United World College movement have taught me many values such as compassion and service, international and intercultural understanding, leadership and respect for the environment. As a graduate of UWC Maastricht, I have had the opportunity to live with students from all around the world and learn about different cultures. I would to like use these qualities to make ISLC more accessible for everyone. I have served as the Chairperson of Activities on the ISLC board in the past year. I am well aware of the responsibilities of the president of ISLC. As the President of ISLC I would like to organize events that will educate American students about different cultures and current affairs in the world. This can be done by organizing workshops conducted by international students and TCKs about their countries or regions. Through these workshops we could also initiate discussions about global issues in the LC community. I would also like to collaborate more with other clubs to increase the participation of the American students in ISLC events. I hope to achieve these goals and live up to the values ISLC stands for.My past two years at LC and the United World College movement have taught me many values such as compassion and service, international and intercultural understanding, leadership and respect for the environment. Candidate(s) for ISLC Representatives to ASLC

Nicolette Sauramba (Fall Semester)

I’m Nicolette. I’m a sophomore Economics major and French minor. I’m also a Zimbabwean Third Culture Kid. This to me means that I understand the importance of culture and how it defines us. I also understand the experience of being in culturally foreign environment and the importance of having a voice in this instance. As the ISLC representative to the ASLC, I will make sure that the voices of international students of LC are heard and taken into account in all student related decisions.

 Hongyi Jiang (Spring Semester)

Hello, my name is Hongyi and I am running for the ISLC representative to ASLC in Spring 2018. I have served on the ISLC board in the academic year 2016/17. ISLC to me is a student organization that builds the bridge for international students and TCKs to celebrate their culture and diversity in LC. During my time with ISLC, my colleagues and I have been working together in integrating ISLC towards a more empowering institution that provides practical support to the international student body as well as a welcoming place for domestic students to join in. I am invested in the idea of enhancing the relationship between ISLC and the larger LC community, including ASLC, so that my fellow international students and TCKs can enjoy a healthy and fair environment. I wish to deliver the voices of my peers to the administration and the community because diversity and differences is and should be valued in LC. There is a great potential for improvement and together we can make it better. Thank you for your vote!
