Inauguration Weekend Events

President Robin Holmes-Sullivan will be installed as Lewis & Clark’s twenty-sixth president, a momentous occasion deserving of celebration for our institution. 

Installation Ceremony

Friday, October 21

7:30 a.m.

Free campus shuttle service begins (NW Towncar Sprinter Van). Runs every 15 minutes from St. Mark’s Church (9750 SW Terwilliger Blvd) to Campus Safety.

1 - 3:15 p.m.

The Inauguration welcome tent is located outside the Office of Campus Safety near Gate 3.

1:30 - 3:30 p.m.

Limo golf cart service opens for guests with accessibility needs. Runs every 15 minutes at Akin Lot, Pamplin Lot, Pamplin Gym, and reception tent.

2:30 p.m.

Pamplin Gymnasium doors open for Inauguration Ceremony.

3:30 p.m.

Inauguration Ceremony takes place in the Pamplin Gymnasium. The installation ceremony for a new college president is among the oldest traditions in academia. The ceremony begins with the procession of delegates from other colleges and universities, as well as current and former Lewis & Clark faculty and trustees, in the colorful academic regalia of their own institutions. The ceremony will feature musical and dance performances by L&C students and faculty—including an original composition by Professor of Music Michael Johanson—as well as greetings from members of the community and an inaugural address by the new president.

5 p.m.

Inaugural Reception takes place under large tents in the Academic Quadrangle Lawn featuring international foods, beverages, and music.

6:30 - 8 p.m.

Limo golf cart service opens for guests with accessibility needs.

8 p.m.

Limo golf cart service closes for guests with accessibility needs.

8 p.m.

Valet service closes (NW Corner of the Miller Center for the Humanities, across from reception tent).

7:30 p.m. - 9 p.m.

Campus shuttle service ends (when lot empties). Last drop-off at St. Mark’s Church (9750 SW Terwilliger Blvd).

Student Inauguration Party

L&C graduate, law, and undergraduate students are invited to a game-filled night in the heart of downtown Portland to celebrate the inauguration of President Holmes-Sullivan. Food and nonalcoholic beverages will be provided, and there will be a range of fun activities available from bowling, ping pong, arcade games, giant scrabble, foosball, cornhole, and karaoke! Alcoholic beverages will be available for purchase for those who are 21 and older. You will need to RSVP for both the event and for complimentary transportation from campus to the venue (transportation option only available for CAS students).
