Lewis & Clark Testing Center

The Student Support Services Testing Center opened in September 2017.  This space provides a reduced distraction testing environment for L&C students whom access accommodated testing.  We have 18 individual testing carrels; 6 outfitted with Mac desktop computers, and 12 with a standard table top. All testing carrels have an individual desktop lamp with adjustable settings.  We also provide noise-canceling headphones and earplugs for students testing in our center.

SSS Accommodated Testing

Testing Services are a resource for Lewis & Clark College of Arts & Sciences, Graduate School of Education & Counseling, and Law School students.  Lewis & Clark students must be registered with Student Support Services to access testing services.


Distance Learning & Community Proctoring

Testing Services are available to non-L&C students and community members who are in need of proctoring services for distance education.  We offer administration and proctoring services for both computer based and paper/pencil exams.

Approval for Distance Learning & Community Proctoring

SSS staff must review proctoring instructions for each exam, prior to agreeing to serve as a proctor.  Proctoring information should be sent to us directly for review before you schedule a testing appointment.  SSS staff can assist with scheduling an appointment and providing proctor information. As space and staffing resources are limited, we cannot guarantee our services until reviewing the proctoring instructions. Upon approval, the examinee will be responsible to communicate with their home institution regarding proctoring and arranging the delivery of testing materials.


All accommodated testing arranged for L&C students always takes priority over Distance Learning & Community proctored exams.  Appointments for Distance Learning and Community proctored exams are required and available as space permits. If possible, please provide exam instructions at least 3 business days prior to your desired testing date.  Proctoring hours are Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 5:30 pm.

Payment & Fees

Proctoring fees are $30 per hour.  There is a one hour minimum charge for all Distance Learning exams. Partial Hours will not be prorated. The fee is non-refundable and non-transferable.  Payment can be made with cash, check, money order payable to Lewis & Clark College. Please bring your payment with you when you check-in for your exam.     

Cancellation/Reschedule Policy

Please note that there is a 24-hour Cancellation/Reschedule Policy.  In the event that SSS is not notified sooner than 24-hours prior to your appointment, a cancellation fee can be collected.

Instructions for Examinee Requesting Exam Proctoring

Please email us with the following testing information:

  • Your name and contact information

  • The requested date and time of the exam

  • The exam length
  • Home school name

  • Professor contact information

Instructions for Faculty/Distance Education/Home Institution Offices or Other Testing Organizations

Please provide all testing materials:

  • The exam or exam password

  • Thorough proctoring instructions

  • A return envelope is required if you would like the exam returned to you via postal mail

The home institution is responsible for approving, coordinating, and paying any cost incurred to provide accommodations for proctored correspondence exams that are taken with SSS.  To ensure SSS Testing Services can provide the appropriate accommodations, contact SSS prior to scheduling a testing appointment.

Test Day:

Be prepared on your test day with:

  • A current photo ID
  • Permitted exam materials

SSS provides pencils, scratch paper (if allowed), Macintosh computer (no internet access) and noise reduction devices.  Students are responsible for bringing any other testing materials that may be permitted.

  • Employ well-trained, professional staff to administer exams

  • Strict adherence to high standards of test administration including:

    • Positive identification of examinees using current, valid, photo ID

    • Staff monitoring of examinees at all times in the testing center

    • Careful adherence to testing rules

    • Accurate timing of exams

    • Clear communication of procedures to students and instructors.


Inclement Weather & Campus Closures

SSS Testing Services follows L&C inclement weather and closure protocol.  When Lewis & Clark closes due to inclement weather all scheduled exams and other College events are canceled.  If a scheduled exam is impacted by a campus closure it is the responsibility of the examinee to contact SSS at access@lclark.edu to reschedule the exam.
