Discover Mt Rainier National Park

Hike & Snowshoe on Mt. Rainier & see massive glaciers, old-growth forests, towering waterfalls, and historic National Park architecture.  LC Senior & Mt Rainier National Park Ranger Jay Chu will be your expert guide!

You’ll depart Fri evening to camp out, and be back Saturday night with plenty of time left to study on Sunday.

Rare opportunity to view thousands of swifts roosting at sunset!

This Sunday evening College Outdoors will be running a FREE trip to view one of Portland’s most spectacular natural events: every year thousands of Vaux’s Swifts  gather in the city as they prepare to migrate to Central America and Venezuela. Migrating swifts often use chimneys as roosts (places to sleep), and they return to the same roost at an elementary school in NW Portland year after year. Last weekend there were over 8,000!

Join art history professor Matt Johnston for a hike in the ancient forests of Opal Creek. We will be discussing the history of conservation, mining, and land-use ethics through the lens of historical photographs. Expect to find old mine shafts and machinery hidden in the forest.

We love nature, fear it, play in it – but we’re losing it, and we’re losing the language to speak of it. This walk with psychology professor Jolina Ruckert will be a journey through nature experience: the wild, the domestic, and the perverse. We will discuss, identify, and embrace diverse and deeply meaningful human experiences with the wider natural world.

NST Forms Due

Your individual New Student Trip page will have access to the three forms that are required by this date. Those forms are the equipment you would like to borrow, your travel information, and the release of liability.  There is no additional charge for any equipment you would like to borrow for your New Student Trip. If you do not have travel plans finalized prior to June 23rd due to extenuating circumstances, please contact us; we can extend the deadline.

Unless you are waiting to be notified about your trip placement and financial aid award, the balance of your trip is due by 5pm on Monday, June 12th. For later registrations, your due date will be sent with your trip assignment. Online payments can be submitted using the link that will be provided to you in your pre-trip email.  Payments are also accepted by mail.

You’ll stay at a cute charter school and hike the surrounding headlands and beaches for spectacular views.
