The Afrikan Diaspora Club and Dallaire Scholar invite you to an evening of learning and paying respect to the victims of the 1994 genocide against Tutsis in Rwanda. This event will bring together students, staff, and faculty to engage with distinguished speakers. Students will have the opportunity to interact with them, followed by dinner.

Background: Kwibuka events and ceremonies take place annually during the official 100 days of mourning held every year between April and July to remember the victims of the 1994 genocide against the Tutsi, known as Kwibuka, which means “to remember”.

Amy Baskin is a Pushcart Prize and Best of the Net nominee, an Oregon Literary Arts fellow, and an Oregon Poetry Association prize winner. Her first collection, NIGHT HAG (Unsolicited Press, 2023), is about Lilith, the mythic “first woman,” and will be available in April. Amy works with students and faculty in the Departments of English and History at Lewis & Clark and helps run the annual Fir Acres Summer Writing Workshop. Her chapbook HYSTERICAL CAKE was published by Dancing Girl Press in 2022. Her work has been featured in journals including Cultural Daily, Timberline Review, Pirene’s Fountain, Friends Journal, Literary Review, and SWWIM. 

December 10th 6:00pm-7:00pm - Racism in Oregon History: A Brief Overview sponsored by Respond to Racism - Hosted by Kerry Tymchuk (virtual - Community Event)

This is a one-day trip to Teacup Lake Nordic Area on Mt. Hood for cross-country skiers.  After a beginning ski skills clinic, we will head out to explore the surrounding groomed ski trails and practice the techniques we’ve learned.  The trip fee includes all transportation and gear.  If you are a more experienced skier, you are welcome to sign up for this trip to get out and do some more independent skiing (skate or classic) on the 20 km of trails at Teacup Lake.
