Jane Hunter, associate dean of the College of Arts and Sciences and professor of history, has been selected as a 2012-13 Fulbright scholar for the Distinguished Chairs Program. The award will allow Hunter to spend her upcoming sabbatical teaching history at Sichuan University in Chengdu, China.

Hunter’s proposed project encompasses two areas of her expertise and experience. Hunter will teach courses in American studies to Chinese undergraduates and graduate students, and she plans to model the liberal arts perspective for these students by exposing them “to a pedagogy that is interactive, student-centered, and evidence-based.”

According to the Chronicle of Higher Education, interest in the liberal arts is growing in China. Hunter will be in a position to educate and encourage students and colleagues as they explore this curricular vision. Hunter previously spent a Fulbright-supported year teaching in Shanghai, in 2003-04.
