In November, for the first time in six years, the Lewis & Clark theatre department
brought a musical to its main stage. Štĕpán Šimek, professor of theatre,
directed a cast of 16 students in Spring Awakening, a Tony Award–winning
musical based on the play by German playwright Frank Wedekind. The performance tackled challenging topics, such as repression, sexuality, and the limits of freedom— all expressed in rock, punk, and garage band–inspired music and songs.
