Symposium Explores Complexities of Community and Free Speech
Open gallery
Lewis & Clark students, staff, and faculty are invited to attend a free symposium titled “Responsibilities and Rights: Free Speech and Community” to be held on Wednesday, October 11. Check-in begins at 8 a.m. and the day-long event culminates with a dinner at 5 p.m.
This symposium seeks to explore the following questions and more as we situate them in the context of Lewis & Clark College:
- How does “free speech” operate on a private, liberal arts campus?
- Where are the legal boundaries?
- How do we make sense of the impact of speech on others, especially in relation to power, equity, and privilege?
- Where are the tensions between speech and community?
This day of discussion and dialogue is free and open to students, staff, and faculty from the College of Arts and Sciences, Graduate School of Education and Counseling, Law School, and Common Services.
Registration is required.
