Heather Cordie IAL ‘04 has been selected as Superintendent of the Sherwood School District. Cordie earned her Initial Administrative Licensure (IAL) at Lewis & Clark as part of her teacher education. The program prepares aspiring educational leaders to have the knowledge, values, and skills to improve teaching and learning in their schools.

According to the Sherwood School District press release, Cordie distinguished herself in a field of 15 applicants by demonstrating a record of success in her role as Assistant Superintendent in the Redmond School District.

“After a thorough search process which resulted in a strong field of applicants, the School Board is confident that Heather Cordie is the right choice to serve our community as superintendent of schools,” School Board Chair Connie Hansen said. “Heather is an outstanding educational leader who embodies the essential qualities developed by our community, staff and students.”

Her prior employment includes six years in various roles involving instructional services at Umatilla-Morrow Education Service District culminating in her appointment as Assistant Superintendent in 2007.  She also has experience as an instructor at Blue Mountain Community College and as a K-12 high school business education teacher at Athena-Weston School District and Echo School District.   She received the “Celebrating School Success Award” from the Oregon Department of Education for making significant progress in closing the achievement gap for minority and low income students.

Colleagues describe her as student-centered and collaborative in this newspaper profile.
